Boxcars are available to accommodate a complete range of shipper needs and fall into two broad category types: general service or "plain vanilla" type and "equipped" cars built for a specific commodity or service. Such "equipped" cars are produced for specific shipper requirements and feature custom interior dimensions, load dividers such as movable bulkheads or rub rails, insulation and end of car cushioning. Boxcars come in a variety of door configurations, from a single side door or plug door to multiple doors on each side of the car to facilitate loading and unloading.
