The Heavy Duty car fleet consists of Depressed Center (FD) cars and Flat Deck (FM) cars, with a capacity of 100 tons or greater. These cars are used for very large, high/wide loads of electric generating equipment including transformers, boilers, and related equipment for cogeneration facilities. Also, the Department of Defense utilizes 140 ton capacity flat deck cars for the transporation of military vehicles.
