Specifications:
Cars in number series SEMX 82ŠŠ were built in 1982; Cars in series SEMX 83ŠŠŠwere built in 1983. All cars were manufactured by Ortner.

Cars are 100-ton nominal capacity all-steel rotary dump style high-side gondola cars with flat, solid steel plate floors, fixed ends and interior bracing of sides.

Sides are 7/32" thick plate and have 13-each "hat" section vertical exterior mounted posts which are aligned with transverse underframe members.

Trucks are 6 1/2" X 12" Ride Control D-7 type. Each spring group consists of 8 outer coil AAR D-7 springs, 7 inner coil AAR #-7 springs and one Stucki HS-7 hydraulic spring group snubber. Wheels are 36" diameter; side bearings are Stucki #688BR constant contact type. Bolster friction pocket wear liners and Transdyne clip-on type side frame pedestal roof liners are applied on all trucks.

Cars are equipped with National Castings rotary style couplers, No. FR-205E on A-ends of all cars. These couplers allow rotation of the coupler about the center line of draft (which coincides with the center line of the coupler shank.) This allows cars to remain coupled during dumping operations.

Brake systems are of conventional design with 8-1/2" X 12" body mounted cylinders, standard AAR group E mechanical slack adjusters, AAR No. 18 brake beams, and linkage arranged for hi-friction composition type brake shoes. Control valves are ABDW type. Hand brakes are low-mounted vertical wheeltype, with extended release handle, Ellcon National No. 1600-2.
