Cars
Tank
cars are the most technically sophisticated and highly regulated
segment of the Freight Car industry. Tank cars transport all
types of liquid and semi-liquid products including many hazardous
commodities. Non-pressurized tank cars typically carry non-hazardous
commodities such as vegetable oil, corn syrup, ethylene glycol,
sulfur, petroleum products and industrial products. Pressurized
tank cars are designed for compressed liquefied commodities
like propane, ammonia, chlorine and carbon dioxide. The DOT
imposes strict requirements for tank car inspections and certifications
with new cars designed for a one million-mile fatigue life.
