Working with a Class I Railroad for sale and lease-back, Railroad Technology Corporation acquired ~300 economically obsolete small cube hopper cars. The cars were subsequently engineered and remanufactured into 6111 cubic feet capacity gondola cars for construction and demolition debris ("C&D") service. Some years following the end of the original lease term, many "6111" cars remain in non-interchange service with the Class I railroad plus with a number of land-fill shipper operators. This is a text-book example of cost efficient sale-leaseback - "win / win" for all concerned.
