Working with a Regional Railroad to originate a car hire (per diem) lease for their on-line paper mill shipper, Railroad Technology Corporation acquired a fleet of mid-life, off-lease boxcars for the new car hire lease. Engineering and remanufacturing of this fleet was largely routine, with many new wheels, blast and paint, new doors seals and roof waterproofing to pass the leak test. Each car was remanufactured for approximately $18,000 each and averaged ~$400 month net car hire over more than ten years of revenue service.
